"As a practicing psychiatrist with over 25 years of clinical experience, I see EFT as the most promising new treatment I've ever encountered...." -Eric Leskowitz, M.D., Department of Psychiatry, Harvard Medical School
EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) is a non-invasive therapy for relieving emotional and physical pain. EFT does this by using counter-conditioning to break the association between a stressor or past memory and the fight-or-flight-or-freeze response.
For years, EFT tapping has been successfully used to relieve anxiety and PTSD. The Journal of Nervous and Mental Diseases published a study showing EFT decreased symptoms for a number of anxiety disorders, including veterans with PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder). EFT tapping is used worldwide to manage chronic pain, control food cravings, plus overcome grief and phobias.
Neuroscience shows every experience we have creates a memory. This memory encodes the brain with an emotional, electrical charge. The electrical charge creates a groove (neural pathway) in the brain signaling a physical response such as fear and anxiety. Whenever you think of that memory, it signals your brain to trigger fear and anxiety as if you’re experiencing the trauma again.
EFT tapping reroutes the old electrical charge so that it doesn’t follow the same, stress-inducing neural pathway. You do this by tapping on specific acupressure points as you think of the memory. This creates a new electrical charge (and new neural pathway) that tells your body to relax and that you are safe.
Once you break the stimulus-response cycle with EFT tapping, the results last and you are no longer triggered by past memories or current stressors.
Tapping rewires the brain
Assess: At the beginning your session, I’ll ask you a few questions to understand your symptoms.
Release: While sitting in a chair, you repeat specific statements and follow my movements as you tap gently on areas on your face, chest and hand. Within minutes, you reroute old electrical charges and begin feeling more relaxed and pain symptoms begin to reduce.
Relief: At the end of your session, you’ll feel soothed and happier. You can continue with your normal feeling peaceful, in control, and more focused.
